Prior to the opening of the high school, students from Monroe Township had attended Glassboro High School. The high school was designed to handle an initial enrollment of 800 students when it was to open for the 1958-59 school year and was constructed at a cost of $1.3 million (equivalent to $13.2 million in 2022). There were 409 students (22.6% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 107 (5.9% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.
